Ohio's 136th General Assembly has commenced in Columbus, as announced by State Representative Jamie Callender. Entering his fourth term for the 57th Ohio House District, Callender represents eastern Lake County and several communities within it. Previously, he served from 1997 to 2004 representing the western half of Lake County. This marks his eighth term representing Lake County in Columbus.
During the previous assembly, Callender held roles such as Chair of the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review and Chair of the Finance Sub-Committee on Infrastructure and the American Rescue Plan Act. He was also a member of various committees including Finance, Pension, and Health Provider Services. Additionally, he was appointed to represent Ohio on the Great Lakes Commission.
Callender played a key role in advancing the Fair School Funding Plan, securing an additional $1.49 billion for public K-12 education. His efforts also included supporting Northeast Ohio through numerous capital budget projects amounting to $56 million and over 60 operating budget appropriations exceeding half a billion dollars. Six pieces of legislation he supported were signed into law by the Governor.
“I am truly humbled by the continued trust the people of Lake County have placed in me,” said Callender. “Being elected to represent the community I grew up in, raised a family in, and my grandchildren call home is the honor of a lifetime. I look forward to working with Lake County’s local, state, and federal leaders to build upon the success of the past six years as we strive to keep Lake County the best place in the nation to work, live, and raise a family.”
The current assembly will run from January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2026. The Ohio House is now awaiting committee assignments and anticipates receiving budget proposals from the Governor for 2026/2027.
