State Rep. Jamie Callender | The Ohio House of Representatives
The Ohio House of Representatives has passed HB 232, part of an omnibus package within SB 163, as announced by Representative Jamie Callender. The bill proposes the creation of a Historic and Patriotic Education license plate to support the Ohio Society, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) in their educational and conservation efforts.
The Ohio Society, SAR was established shortly before the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution. It consists of 23 local chapters with nearly 2,000 members focused on education, preserving Revolutionary War history, and fostering patriotism among future generations. Revenue from this new license plate will aid these initiatives.
Ohio currently offers 303 Special Interest Plates that benefit various organizations through contributions made when plates are renewed. These contributions range from $0 to $35.
“The Sons of the American Revolution do critical conservation work to preserve the history of our nation’s founding,” stated Callender. “This license plate will not only support their ongoing efforts but provide an opportunity for members to proudly display their ties to our nation's founders.”
Mark Tyler, President of the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of SAR, expressed gratitude towards the Ohio House for supporting HB 232. He noted that funding from this program would increase awareness about SAR and further its mission to honor Revolutionary War ancestors by promoting patriotism and educating future generations.
Steve Kaplan, President of Ohio SAR, shared enthusiasm about progressing towards making the license plate a reality. “We are thankful to Representative Callender and all the members of the Ohio House of Representatives that voted for passage of House Bill 232. We look forward to supporting and advertising the patriotic, educational, and historical work of the SAR."
The bill now awaits concurrence from the Ohio Senate.
