State Senator Jerry C. Cirino (R-Kirtland) has announced plans to host a forum on border insecurity and its impact on Northeast Ohio communities. The event, scheduled for Wednesday, March 27 at 10 am at the Independence Civic Center in Cleveland, aims to address the immigration crisis at the southern border and its implications for law enforcement, public safety, and the justice system in Ohio.

"Our porous southern border is leading to tragic and terrifying repercussions on our entire country, including here in our communities," Cirino expressed, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. The forum will provide a platform for state and local officials to exchange insights and explore potential solutions to the challenges posed by the ongoing border issues.

The forum comes at a time when concerns over illegal immigration are mounting across the nation. Recently, an illegal immigrant was charged with the brutal killing of a Georgia nursing student, further highlighting the urgent need for discussions and actions on border security. Another illegal immigrant was also arrested on the same day in connection with a sexual assault case involving a minor in Virginia.

Key stakeholders invited to the forum include mayors, police chiefs, county representatives, state law enforcement officials, and select prosecutors in the 18th Senate District. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost will serve as the keynote speaker and participate in a roundtable discussion during the event.

Senator Cirino's commitment to border security is evident through his sponsorship of Senate Resolution 243, which called on the federal government to secure the border and protect citizens. The resolution, co-sponsored by State Senator Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green), received overwhelming support in the Senate. Additionally, Cirino is a co-sponsor of Senate Resolution 242, advocating for the designation of drug cartels as terrorist organizations, a measure currently under review by the Senate Community Revitalization Committee.

The forum, restricted to credentialed media only, underscores the importance of addressing border insecurity and its far-reaching implications on communities. It serves as a platform for collaboration and dialogue among officials to address the challenges posed by illegal immigration and safeguard the well-being of residents.
