Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Department of Defense Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2026. Congressman Dave Joyce, who represents Ohio's 14th district and serves as Chair of the House Appropriations Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee, voted in favor of the bill. The legislation allocates $831.5 billion for defense spending.
Congressman Joyce emphasized the importance of this investment in light of global threats. "As a member of the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, I am proud to see this legislation pass the House," he stated. He added that the bill aims to modernize military capabilities and support servicemembers' well-being.
Key provisions in the act include a 3.8% pay increase for military personnel starting January 1, 2026, and $1.15 billion allocated for counter drug programs to combat opioid issues and international drug trafficking. Additionally, $13 billion is set aside for missile defense and space programs.
The act also includes $148 billion for research, development, testing, and evaluation within military services to enhance national security measures while addressing fiscal responsibility by eliminating wasteful practices at the Pentagon.
