In our pursuit of transparency and accountability in local government affairs, we at DeKalb Times requested a list of all payments made to vendors from January 1, 2024, until September 26, 2024. We specifically asked for the following fields to be included in the records: Vendor Name, Transaction Date, Transaction Description, and Amount.
As a media organization dedicated to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to public records is crucial for us. This information enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information to the public and promoting transparency in governance, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
