Lake County Sheriff's Office Sheriff Frank Leonbruno issued the following announcement on Nov. 17.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a large tree which had fallen across the roadway on Riverside Dr. in the vicinity of Overlook Dr. in Painesville Township, OH. The report indicated the tree had fallen on a vehicle and the vehicle’s occupants were trapped inside. Responding Deputies and Painesville Township Fire personnel located a large tree, which had fallen from the west side of Riverside Dr., on the front end of a black Dodge Charger. The male driver and female passenger were trapped inside the vehicle and were extricated by mechanical means by Painesville Township Fire personnel. Both occupants were transported to Tri-Point Medical Center to be treated for injuries which were serious, but not believed to be life-threatening.
The investigation revealed the black Dodge Charger had been traveling south on Riverside Dr. near Overlook Dr. when the large tree fell from the west side of the roadway and directly onto the front end of the vehicle. It is believed weather was a factor and that the tree had been blown over by heavy winds. The vehicle sustained disabling/total damage. The incident remains under investigation at this time.
